EVALUATION: Question 3
http://www.slideshare.net/maxtygabes/media-studies-the-huntedevaluation-powerpoint-1-question-3
Above is a link to our response to question 3 of the evaluation. For this question we decided to broaden our range of platforms and answered in the form of a powerpoint. We liked the officious style of powerpoint, and it is to be read which allows readers to take more time over it and think clearly about how we are responding.
EVALUATION: Questions 2, 4 and 5
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CujxivsHLM8&list=PLncc5DCs0uQHsPcJojt3LlgugYa3we57b
Above is a link to another video of our evaluation process. This video contains our responses to questions 2, 4, and 5. For these question we kept it simple, just filming ourselves answering the questions posed. This method was probably our favourite as a group as it feels much more intimate and there can be a greater connection for listeners/watchers.
EVALUATION: Question 1

Above is a link to our group's response to question 1 of the evaluation process. We decided to do a commentary for this response as we felt that it would be helpful to be able to be evaluating our product simultaneously to it being played on screen so what we were saying could correspond to what was going on on screen.

Process of Constructing Our Opening Title Sequence - Sound Layering
It was quite a complex process completing the sound layering of our film opening. We broke the genre conventions almost immediately by deciding to use two totally different songs in one short opening, although we felt that helped us to effectively convey the protagonist's reactions and emotions. There are also a variety of sound effects in our opening, including the noises of traffic and a gunshot. To compile this smoothly into one short opening was an interesting artistic process for the group.
This image shows the first song we used. We felt that, although it was non-diagetic, 'Stay Positive' by 'The Streets' definitely added a youthful, dark, urban approach to our opening, which is certainly an aspect we were looking for.
This image displays how we added specific sound effects such as traffic. This gave the product a much more realistic and dangerous feel to it, thus adding a large amount of suspense for the audience.
This is right at the end of our video, when 'On the Nature of Daylight' fades out and there is the sound effect of a plane, which acts as a bridge into the last piece of sound which accompanies our final title credit. We constructed this ourselves, hence why it is 'This Bitter Earth (Remix)'.
This is VitrualDJ Home. This program was hugely integral in providing us with a platform to create out sound layering. It was used to smooth in sound effects such as the gun shot and the traffic noise, but really played its key part in remixing the last song that accompanies our end title credit 'The Hunted'. Things such as sound increase and different sound mixtures were used to create what we hoped to be a much more intense ending.

This image shows another sound effect being integrated,
this time the gunshot. It also shows the transition between
our two songs, as the second one; 'On the Nature of daylight',
shows a huge shift in emotion and mood, and it is the effect of
the gunshot that helps to highlight this change.
After the sound FX and and music was finished on Imovie,
we transferred our product over to Final Cut Pro. This image
shows the piano sound used at the start of our piece with the
opening title credit that then fades into our first song 'Stay Positive'.

Process of Constructing Our Opening Title Sequence - Credits
Our opening credit is our claim to assosciation with 'Clown Media'. This was, originally, an idea the group had to have as our company ident (which can be learnt more about in the Company Ident Discussion blog post). We liked the connotations clowns carry of something that appears nice but is really dark and sinister, and felt it still had relation to our piece, so decided to make it our opening credit.
The above picture shows that we made the decision to have our title credits in red. This picture shows the process of making the credits red. As we repeatedly mention, we felt that the colour red would fit the style of our opening as it certainly connotes violence and danger - two key themes of our product.

The above picture shows again making the text red. It also shows the font we decided
to use; Comic Script. We felt Comic Script was a good font to use as it followed the
conventions of many other films of a similar thriller/horror genre, as the juxtaposition
of a 'comic' font in a thriller film makes the action seem all the more intense.
The rest of our credits, of course, followed suit and were made red. However,
after some feedback from people close, but external, to the group, in which it was
suggested that the credits were made a slightly smaller size to make it look more
professional, we followed this through and changed the size down.
Process of Constructing Our Opening Title Sequence - End Title Credit
We used Final Cut Pro in order to create the end title credit for our piece. It was an interesting creative process as we had to find colours and fonts that were in tandem with the video itself and connoted danger and bloodshed. As it is the last thing the audience see of our video, it needs to pack a punch that piques the viewer's interest and inclines them to watch more.
Here begin the preliminary formulations of our end credit of 'The Hunted'. It is originally set on a black background which we later change, and it is shown that we are creating the shape around the words in to the form of a stereotypical 'blood splatter' which will help to create that sense of danger which we aimed for.
Once the shape had been created, we started to change the colours of the splatter. Black was the colour we chose for the splatter because it is a colour of mystery and darkness. as if something is being concealed. We decided to make the background of the picture red as it complemented the black and brought it forward, thus highlighting that aforementioned dark element to our piece.
Once the basics of our end credit had been completed, we decided to add some effects. As shown, we added a quick 'flash spin' to the entrance of the title and highlights were used occasionally to light up our title.
Here is the a screenshot of the finished product of our end title credit. It is clear that each step in the coming together of the title credit was vitally important, as the title credit can carry huge connotations - such as the red suggesting violence and bloodshed and the black bringing forward an element of darkness and concealment to our piece.

Next came the font and colour of the title itself.
We used the font 'comic script', as our research
told us that many other horror/thriller films use
the same, or similar, font. We made the title itself
red as, again, it connotes danger and violence. The
font and colour of our end title also keeps consistent
with the rest of the credits in our piece.

Final task Opening Sequence - Fifth Draft
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQQCnYEjgxM
Above is the our fifth draft of the opening title credit sequence. Here we had a new title at the end which was created much more by us; Timon in particular. This is also the first time we had our ident on video - 'Red Light Productions'. We felt this brings a completely new element to the video, connoting danger and perhaps bloodshed - two key elements to our film.

Final task Opening Sequence - Fourth Draft
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6FPFyUW1Sqk
Above is the link to the fourth draft of our final piece. Again, there were changes to this one. Most notably, the first song was changed from 'Street Lights' by Kanye West, to 'Stay Positive' by The Streets. We felt that the new song gave the video an entirely different feel to it; it was much more urban and dark instead of a slightly joyous hint to it.
There was also a play around with the sequence of the shots. A close up shot of our actor running was moved to the start of the video as we felt it may give the sequence a more gripping opening.
The entry of the music was changed again to be faded in as our actor put his earphones in to make it diegetic. However, for this one we temporarily suspended the title credits as we were intent on changing them anyway so we took them off to create a new base layer for our most next draft.

Final task Opening Sequence - Third Draft

Above is the third draft of our final task. This draft was the first time we attempted to add title credits to our piece. We had them in white in Times New Roman font and had them coming onto the screen in a variety of different styles. Some slide in from either side, others fade in and out, and some just appear on one part of the screen.

Final task Opening Sequence - Second Draft

Above is the second draft of our final piece. As will be noticed here, not a huge amount changed between the first and second draft. The key difference was the entry of the first score of music. In the second draft we had the song playing right from the beginning of the piece, instead of coming in gradually as our actor put headphones in his ears to create a diegetic feel to the soundtrack.

Formal Feedback Session with Media Class (Draft 3)
This was the 3rd draft of our final task of creating an opening title sequence for a film. The students of the class all watched the film and then gave both positive aspects of our film and constructive criticisms to improve on.

Film storyboard/shooting schedule
Here is pictures of our group's storyboard for our film, which consists of 22 parts. This will aid us when we begin filming, as we will have a plan to follow and there will be chronology to what we do. Also, we will be in the knowledge that every member of the group has contributed to the film as we planned the storyboard together.

What follows is the shooting schedule for our group. This will be extremely helpful to us in having time constraints and being able to allocate time where we can all give our undivided attention to shooting, which will, therefore, result in a better end product for the group.
